The Head of Operations and Sports Lead  for Trondheim 2025, Kristin Mürer Stemland, is pleased with the programme for the World Cup at Granåsen in December.

The programme for the World Cup in cross-country skiing has been finalised. The events will be sprint, skiathlon and 10 kilometres at Granåsen, and Kristin Mürer Stemland is very pleased with the set-up.

“The programme for the World Cup weekend at Granåsen is very good. These are events that will also be held during the World Ski Championships, which means that we’ll get the practice we need. I also think it’ll be beneficial for the athletes to compete in the World Championship events at Granåsen. We’re looking forward to welcoming the world’s best athletes at the World Championship facility,” says Kristin Mürer Stemland, Head of Operations and Sports Lead  for the 2025 World Ski Championships.

“Very good for us”

The programme involves a skating sprint on Friday, a 20-kilometre skiathlon on Saturday and individual 10-kilometre classic cross-country on Sunday during the period from 15 to 17 December. This was decided during the FIS Calendar Conference in Dubrovnik on Friday.

“This will be very good for us. A challenging calendar for the winter was adopted, but our voices were heard for the World Cup weekend at Granåsen. This programme will allow more of our athletes to compete,” says Ulf Morten Aune, the Norwegian member of the FIS Sub-Committee for Cross-Country World and Continental Cups.

Want to see a lot of people lining the courses

Stemland and her sports organisation will be working hard leading up to December to help ensure that these sporting events are as perfect as possible. Her ambitions also go beyond the realm of sports.

“We need to practice for the ski festival, too. One of our major goals is to get a lot of people to Granåsen during the World Cup weekend. It’s important for the athletes and important for us. It will create enthusiasm on the road to Trondheim 2025,” she says with a smile.
