Today, we celebrate the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
Despite human rights being universal, many people with disabilities face exclusion from vital areas of society such as education, healthcare, and employment. December 3rd highlights the rights of people with disabilities to participate fully in all aspects of society, including significant events like the 2025 Ski World Championships.
We take this challenge seriously, and over time, Trondheim 2025 has systematically worked to achieve the Accessibility Mark. We are proud to announce that we have succeeded in making it the first sports event in Norway to receive this recognition.
“We want everyone to feel welcome at the World Championships. It has been inspiring and rewarding to work toward making this decade’s biggest celebration of sports and culture earn the Accessibility Mark – a symbol of our commitment to inclusion,” says Steinar Haugen, Head of Accessibility for Trondheim 2025.
Here are some of the initiatives planned to make the championship experience memorable for everyone:
- Excellent accessibility at the venues.
- A dedicated transportation system.
- Interpretation services, including text-to-speech (on mobile devices) and sign language interpretation.
- Integration of culture and sports marks the first time a Norwegian sports event has received the Accessibility Mark.
- Ensuring accessibility despite the challenges of hosting a winter event.
Trondheim2025 aims to set a new standard for inclusion and accessibility, creating a celebration in which everyone can participate.
